Types of Alloy Wheel Damage
There are many small road hazards that can easily damage your expensive alloy wheels. Potholes, kerbs, debris – all encountered on a daily basis. The main types of damage our Smarties alloy wheel repair team can help with are:
1. Front or Backside Bends
The bends are inspected for hidden fractures and run out is measured to determine if they are safe to straighten. If safe, we straighten the bends so they balance correctly again.
2. Kerb Rash
The wheels are repaired, primed, painted and clear-coated using paint adhesion technology. We use manufacturer-approved paints to colour match every wheel before repair.
3. Minor Corrosion
The wheels are cleaned and any repairs needed carried out. They are then primed, painted and clear-coated.
4. Gouges
Gouges require welding. If the gouges to the rim or spoke are deep, we may deem them unsafe to repair and a manufacturer recommended replacement wheel may be required.
5. Cracks
Cracks also require welding and CNC machining. If cracks are deemed unsafe to repair a manufacturer recommended replacement wheel will be required.
I would highly recommend them as a reasonably priced local service. I’m so glad I discovered them! I’ll definitely use them again.
Peter, Rickmansworth
Ben and his team are highly knowledgeable. I needed to sell my car but had some marks on my wheels and a scratch on the paintwork and was told these could affect the value. I’m not an expert on cars and came to Smarties looking for advice. They gave the car an inspection (found another scratch!) and quoted a price which I wasn’t expecting to be so low!
I can’t recommend them enough and have already told friends about them. A hidden gem!
